The Roadmap to Your Dreams

I've got a question for you.

How many times have you gone to the gym in your life, wandered around, maybe got on the treadmill, possibly lifted a few dumbbells and stretched for a minute, and then left, wondering if you even did anything at all?

Another question:

In what other areas of life do you anticipate that you'll reach a new destination without a map?

It's absolutely incredible how we all think we should be able to just wander around aimlessly in the gym and make progress towards our goal (destination) when we don't treat any other area of our life that way.

If you want to save money, you create a budget. You look at where you can cut expenses. You create a plan. And you follow it systematically.

If you want to work in a certain industry, you study the relevant material to apply there. You learn from people who know what they're doing. You take the tests. You follow the road.

If you want to reach a health goal, you need a road map. And then you just need to show up and follow the path.

The problem is that our world is set up to teach us how to create roadmaps for certain things (like finding a career), but not for others - namely, getting healthy.

The vast majority of companies benefit from us being unhealthy. We buy their ultra-processed foods and then we buy their bogus solutions to the situations we find ourselves in when, after years of eating their junk and sitting at our stressful, demanding desks, we find ourselves unhealthy, unhappy, low in energy, and - often - in pain or ill.

This is why coaches and personal trainers exist. We are here to give you the road map. We are here to remove the confusion and light your path to wellness. We are also here to remind you that getting healthy is about loving yourself - not hating yourself.

I just had a client this week say to me - as she was training - "I just can't believe I let myself get this out of shape."

"Is that a helpful thing to say to yourself?" I asked?

Well, no.

"What might be helpful?"

"Uhm...I guess being proud that I'm here and I'm doing it."

YES.

Getting healthy can feel so discouraging. It takes many years to get to a state of unhealth...often with it creeping up on us before we even realize what's happening. And the journey back to health can feel like it will take just as long.

That's why I work so much on mindset. Rewriting your stories. Identifying your why. Why is getting healthy important to you? What's at stake if you don't make the changes to start moving in that direction?

Finding your answers to those questions - the deep down answers - is Step 1 on the road map to leading a quality, healthy, life. Then, we get to work on a step-by-step plan for you.

It's not the years in your life so much as it's the life in your years. And it's never too late to start.

You can do this.
